This is my first post, and I thought I'd show a couple of my first pics taken on the new camera. I would appreciate any criticism, positive and negative.

Welcome Dragonz,
congratulations on your first post.
These are lovely critters and well captured.
#1 is my pick of these for the nice pose, and subject fills the frame well.
My suggestion to improve these is to consider the background.
In #2 the background has some distractions and looks artificial.
#1 has a better background, but for me the colour doesn't show him to best advantage.
I'd be inclined to remove the piece of pipe in the bottom right too.
Great subjects and thanks for sharing. _________________ Karen

Thank you Avalon for your comment and advice, I appreciate it. Its always great to get feedback, whether its positive or negative. Obviously, its the only way we learn and enhance our abilities.
Yes Heartyfisher, they are my pets. They look more spectacular with their colour, each time they shed. _________________ CANON 500D |

I like the second one. Looks like "hey mate" with a bit of a back slap _________________ Nikon D5000 | Nikkor 18-55 | Nikkor 55-200 | Nikkor 50 f/1.4 | Tokina 12-24 f/4 | OLD Tamron 300mm (CT-300) | Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 VRII

Hey Dragonz, welcome. The eye of the dragon in the first shot and second shot seems to have a "matte look" to it, kinda seems like it should be more shiny based on the colouring in the rest of the image.
I think both shots could be enhanced by adding just the slightest hint of a reflection to his eye. Would make him look more alive IMO. _________________ Cheers,
